Super Mario Maker 2 new update: A year and a half later

Nintendo releases a new update for Super Mario Maker 2, one of the most popular exclusives for the Switch, which could very well be the last one.

What a big surprise for Super Mario Maker 2 players, who have gone over a year without enjoying an update in the Nintendo Switch game. It has been over 4 years since the exclusive was released in stores, by the way.

Despite its longevity, Super Mario Maker 2 maintains a faithful community of users, who enjoy creating levels every day, sharing them with other players, and unleashing their creativity. They even created a Super Mario Bros 5 with the game’s tools.

The last patch for the Nintendo title was released in November 2022. That’s why many were shocked to see that Super Mario Maker 2 has a new patch available.

This update includes the 3.0.3 version of the game, although, at first glance, it doesn’t seem to add much new content.

However, it’s great news that Nintendo still remembers Super Mario Maker 2, one of its most powerful exclusives of 2019.

Super Mario Maker 2 has a little ‘adjustment’ to make

Since yesterday, February 6, players can download a new patch for Super Mario Maker 2, which installs the 3.0.3 version of the Nintendo Switch title.

If you have automatic updates configured, your console will apply the patch as soon as it connects to the internet.

In this link, the new features or changes applied by the 3.0.3 version are indicated. Although, truth be told, there is not much to say… at first glance.

The patch notes indicate the following:

  • Adjustments have been made to make the gaming experience more enjoyable.

In this post on ResetEra, players discuss what the term ‘enjoyable’ means. Upon delving into the topic, this patch could have an ulterior motive.

Many believe that the new update has been released to fix a bug that apparently allowed the user CarlSagan42 to complete the game in record time. You can see it here.

Super Mario Maker 2 is one of the best exclusives for the Nintendo Switch, which you can enjoy solo and also in online mode. If you have never tried it, and you like games like Little Big Planet or Dreams, you should give it a shot.
