All possible choices in the important dialogue with Gandrel, and we help you select the right ones so that everyone is happy and content.
We can make many decisions in Baldur’s Gate 3, and some decisions have serious consequences such as the death of certain characters.
At a certain point in the game, we will encounter Gandrel, a vampire hunter, and we must decide whether to kill him or let him live, but if you leave him alive, Astarion will likely not be happy and seek revenge on his own.
Fortunately, you can make a decision to keep both Astarion and Gandrel completely alive and everyone happy, but it can be quite convoluted.
So we tell you exactly how to save Gandrel in Baldur’s Gate 3, while also making sure that Astarion is not upset in the least.
How to save Gandrel in Baldur’s Gate 3
As we said, Gandrel is a vampire hunter that you will encounter at the beginning of the adventure and who belongs to the town of Gur, with the main objective of eliminating Astarion.
Obviously, we are not interested in losing Astarion, so most players are directly eliminating Gandrel, and that is a mistake.
However, there is an interesting process for you to avoid Gandrel’s death while also preventing Astarion from getting involved.
What we recommend is that when you encounter Gandrel, start the conversation but do not finish it.
As soon as you see that Gandrel starts talking about his intentions to kill a vampire, end the conversation and leave.
You must end the conversation before Gandrel starts to go into detail about his true intentions.
On the other hand, if you talk to Gandrel without having encountered Astarion before, there will be no problem.
All the results of the interaction with Gandrel
As we said, the ideal thing is to interrupt the dialogue with Gandrel and leave before he talks about his intentions, and both characters will remain alive.
However, if you continue with the dialogue, Astarion will kill him.
If you want to act in a good way and lose Astarion forever, something we do not recommend, you can hand over the vampire.
If you decide to leave after Gandrel discovers Astarion’s identity, he will challenge you to a fight and you will have to kill him.
The other option is that Astarion is not on your team during the dialogue with Gandrel so that no battle begins.
As you can see, we have a couple of options for both characters, Gandrel and Astarion, to remain completely alive in the adventure.
