Revealed: Sales Comparisons of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

We are currently in the midst of a generation, and both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S have already sold millions of units. At the end of 2020, Sony and Microsoft faced difficulties in shipping consoles to the shops. Now, in 2024, it’s time to analyze their sales and interpret the data from tax documents.

In Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two’s latest financial report, it was revealed that a total of 77 million current generation consoles were sold as of December 31, 2023, between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to statistics from different research and analysis companies such as Newzoo, IDG Consulting, and ESA.

While the data for each company was not specified, it’s important to take a look back to understand the current sales of Xbox Series X|S and PS5. Sony reported in November 2023 that they had sold up to 50 million units, while Microsoft revealed in June 2023 that 21 million Xbox Series units had been sold to date.

Taking all of this into account, it can be estimated that Xbox Series X|S has a total of sales less than 27 million, while the rest belong to PlayStation 5 with 50 million or even something else. These consoles still have about 3-4 years left in their generation, but the Nintendo Switch, which has been on the market for seven years, continues to sell very well and has sold 139.36 million units worldwide, nearing the sales of DS and PlayStation 2.

In 3DGames, the sales of PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S for 2023 were discussed, as well as the Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscriber numbers.
