Famitsu reveals the ranking of the best-selling games and consoles of the week (January 29 to February 4) in Japan.
Japan is one of the main markets for the video game industry. It is also, perhaps, the most peculiar, because titles tend to appear that never make the jump to the West, or they arrive much later. That’s why we take a look at their sales every week.
In the case of the past week, which goes from January 29 to February 4, the sales ranking in Japan underwent a few changes, with the arrival of new releases.
Famitsu has revealed the ranking of the 10 best-selling games, shared in the West through Gematsu. They also highlight the consoles that sold the best in these days.
You already know that the Nintendo Switch has become the best-selling console in history in Japan, surpassing PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS. Will it manage to reach the top spot worldwide?
In terms of games, new releases such as Persona 3 Reload and Granblue Fantasy: Relink stand out, but also a debutant for Nintendo Switch that hasn’t reached us in the West.
Persona 3 imposes its law
To start, we remember that Persona 3 Reload has sold more than a million copies in its first week, making it the fastest game by Atlus to reach that figure. It is very meritorious, considering the game was launched directly on Xbox Game Pass.
In Japan, the title from Atlus and Sega has achieved the top spot, after selling a total of 116,392 copies in its debut week.
Out of that total, more than 76,000 correspond to the PS5 version (in first place), while on PS4 it managed to sell just over 40,000 copies (in third position).
The other successful release was Granblue Fantasy: Relink, the RPG from Cygames, which garnered a total of 70,848 copies sold (almost 49,000 on PS5 and just over 22,000 on PS4).
As the fourth best-selling game, we find Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash, a title from Bandai Namco, which sold 25,242 copies in its first week.
From here, there isn’t much novelty. Shiren the Wanderer was placed sixth, while Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth sold just over 31,000 copies on PS5/PS4. Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Momotaro Dentetsu World close out the top 10.
In terms of hardware, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console, with 41,966 units distributed. It surpasses PlayStation 5, which is in second position after selling 34,484 units. Xbox, on the other hand, managed to exceed the 3000 unit mark.
Will Persona 3 Reload hold onto the top spot? It’s possible, but let’s not forget that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, arriving in stores on February 29, is lurking, not to mention a surprise or two from Nintendo.
