The RPG by RGG Studio and Sega has achieved its first sales milestone, just one week after its release on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
The arrival of Yakuza: Like a Dragon was the turning point in making the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio) saga a success worldwide. Accompanied by a name change, we received its new installment, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, a week ago.
It may have been one of the first top releases of 2024, but it is already, by right, one of the great games of this generation, and the culmination of the Yakuza franchise.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has won over critics, placing itself as the best game in the saga on portals like Metacritic. And look, because it has done very well in sales.
In its debut week, following the release on January 26, the eighth installment of Yakuza/Like a Dragon was the best-selling in Japan, sharing that milestone with Tekken 8 in UK stores.
Additionally, Infinite Wealth is the most played title in the franchise on Steam, and also the most reserved game in the history of the saga worldwide.
The success of Ichiban and Kazuma
The first week of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth has gone as well as possible. The game by RGG Studio and Sega has needed only a few days to reach its first sales milestone.
As its creators reported on Twitter/X, the new Yakuza game has sold a million copies worldwide, on both PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
It is the first step to make Infinite Wealth one of the most successful in the franchise. It has been proven that the IP can also be a resounding success away from Japan.
”Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth surpasses one million units sold worldwide. We are incredibly grateful to all our friends around the world for their support”.
To celebrate this news, RGG Studio is already working on a series of free rewards for all players of Infinite Wealth.
It is a set of commemorative T-shirts, ranging from an art with all the main characters, to a Sega logo on a yellow background, and other variants.
In the coming days, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth players will be able to dress Ichiban or Kazuma in these commemorative T-shirts, which will be completely free in all versions of the game.
The only downside is that the New Game Plus mode is not available for free for everyone, being an exclusive mode of the special editions of the game, which are more expensive.
Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is one of the best games of the year so far, and perhaps the best game in the entire franchise. You can play it from January 26 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
