The live-action series based on the popular video game Final Fantasy XIV was initially announced five years ago. However, the project seemed to have faded into obscurity, leading many to wonder if it had been canceled. Unfortunately, Dinesh Shamdasani, co-founder of Hivemind, has confirmed that the project is indeed dead.
Shamdasani revealed that the size of the project was too massive for it to be executed properly. It appears that no company was willing to take on the financial risks associated with such a large-scale production. Even Amazon, the only company that showed some interest, was not completely convinced.
Additionally, screenwriter Jake Thornton mentioned that the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the project. Many studios became more cautious about their investments due to the pandemic.
It seems that the Final Fantasy XIV live-action series will not be coming to fruition anytime soon. The project was supposed to be set in the world of Eorzea and include iconic elements from the game. However, for now, it looks like the fans will have to wait longer to see their favorite game come to life on the small screen.
