The Star Wars sequel trilogy has gone from being the most hated to having a place in the hearts of many fans.
As the years passed, the prequel trilogy of Star Wars gradually became a film saga much loved by fans of the franchise. Despite its poor reception at the time of its release, the adventures of Obi-Wan, Anakin Skywalker and company have managed to make their own reputation.
However, there is a great reason for this redemption, and the answer is Ewan McGregor. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the British actor talks about the bad experience he had with fans of the saga at the time the trilogy was released and how the arrival of new fans and social networks helped fuel this hatred was gradually decreasing over time.
“Something changed, and part of it is because I’ve had the opportunity to meet the fans who loved the movies we made. I also think that at the time they were released, there were people who didn’t really appreciate them. It’s interesting because sometimes people react negatively when they see something right away, but years later they end up saying ‘yeah, I like that.’ I think they’re different types of people. The people I know who really loved movies were kids back then. No one listened to them because there was no internet, you know, and they were just kids. But now I feel closer to them and I really value them.”
Later, in the interview, he explains that George Lucas wanted to try new things, but the expectation that people had at that time was to feel again on the big screen what they saw during the original trilogy. Now, with the passage of time, many have realized this and value the work that the director did at that time.
In fact, a good fan base of the franchise agrees that Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is, without a doubt, one of the best films in the entire saga, along with The Empire Strikes Back. Now, the franchise is in a totally different state and waiting for a revival on the big screen with Rey Skywalker and The Mandalorian as major headliners for the coming years.
