CD Projekt RED Serious Sequel: Cyberpunk 2077 Development

The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is still several years away, but some details have already been revealed. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the project, codenamed Project Orion, is currently in the early stages of development. The team working on the sequel includes veterans of the studio who were previously involved in Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion.

Additionally, the studio has welcomed some new and noteworthy talent to the team. Dan Hernberg, who has worked at Amazon, Blizzard, and on games such as New World, Apex Legends, and Diablo 3, will be the executive producer of Project Orion. Ryan Barnard, formerly of Ubisoft and IO Interactive, joins as design director, and Alan Villani, previously with Warner Bros. Games, will serve as director of engineering. Other key additions include Anna Megill, who has worked on games like Control, Dishonored: Death of The Outsider, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Fable, and Alexander Freed, who was the lead writer at BioWare on Star Wars: The Old Republic.

While CD Projekt RED has made significant progress with these new hires, the company is still actively recruiting for more positions. The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to focus on the character’s origin and may take place in a new city or country.

In other news, CD Projekt RED has announced that 2024 will be an important year for the company, as it will be advancing the development of its RPG The Witcher 4. Additionally, The Witcher: Remake is also in the works, with plans to make significant changes compared to the original game.
