One of the top executives at Baldur’s Gate 3 is clear that if Xbox were to release their games on PS5, it could be a really smart decision that would benefit everyone in the industry.
One of the most important news so far in 2024 is that Starfield, Indiana Jones, and more Xbox games will be coming to PS5 as part of Microsoft’s new multi-platform strategy, according to multiple sources.
Obviously, this unexpected move (to be confirmed) would represent a massive change in Microsoft’s exclusivity policy. The “console war” could change forever, and this has generated a lot of opinions.
Fanaticism has reared its head again, but among the wave of comments, there have also been those who have sought consensus by arguing that this decision could result in a benefit for all parties involved.
Is it a good move for Microsoft?
Michael Dowse, head of publications at Larian Studios, creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, has been clear on this, pointing out that this decision could be very beneficial for Microsoft… and for PlayStation players.
In a Twitter thread, the developer commented: Microsoft’s controversial strategy to get more people to play Xbox games has left people absolutely stunned, launching them to a wider range of people.
The Xbox Series S is a really cost-effective way to play AAA games, but it is not the only one, the developer pointed out. The more copies they can sell, the lower the risk and the more they can invest. Your favorite ecosystem isn’t going anywhere, but strategies change with the times to ensure that the economy makes sense.
Even though Xbox games are on GamePass PC and Xbox, they are usually the top-selling games on Steam at full price. Why wouldn’t they want to make money from games, thus reducing the risk and at the same time be able to say “well, here it’s basically free”?
Baldur’s Gate 3 has arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but it is well known that Larian Studios is not entirely supportive of subscription services. Not long ago, it was confirmed that Baldur’s Gate 3 will not be coming to Xbox Game Pass.
