Poll: Who is the greatest athlete in Ethiopia’s history?

(JT) The international media is talking about Bolt vs. Bekele once again, comparing two of the best runners in world history. Kenenisa has won more individual IAAF World gold medals, world records and more Olympic medals than the Jamaican Usain Bolt so the comparison might not be realistic. But, the Kenenisa Bekele Vs. Usain Bolt debate in the media in regards to who should be crowned as the “the greatest athlete of all time” might not be legitimate if Kenenisa is not even the best athlete inside Ethiopia.

There have been many other legends, record breakers and great athletes in Ethiopian history.

Over the years, Ethiopia has been the most accomplished African nation in winning gold medals in major world athletic competitions while Kenya has had the deepest teams. Of all the legendary Ethiopian runners, who do you think is the greatest in history?

who is better than kenenisa? hands down heis the best

miruts yfter was great too these days there are more races around the world compared to 50 years ago
so who knows, maybe miruts and abeb bikila could have won more medals today

Bekele is the Greatest athelete in Ethiopina atheletics history

there is no dispute that Atheletes like Abebe Bikila, and Miruts Yifter opened the door for all african atheletes, but no body has accomplished as much extraordinary as K. Bekele does on our modern history! I think it is unfair to compair K.Bekele to someone who won about twice or three times! K.Bekele has won 5 Gold medals only in in 2008/2009. I think K. Bekele is the only person in history who won twice double shampionships both 5000m, and 10000m in consecative times!

I'm the Greatest

It seems that is the new motto of the shy and dignified wunderkid Kenenisa Bekele. The data suggest that Kenenisa Bekele is the greatest athlete of all time. however he didn't run the marathon yet, if hefails to match or surpass Haile's record, he might have to share the tittle with Haile. I believe Kenenisa Bekele will be a great marathon runner, of course we must consider injruies. My personal favorite and the greatest female athelete of all time is Tiruye, without a doubt. Derartu Tulu had it but it seems she haven't had optimal condition due to the time of her maturity as world class athlete. It was a time of turmoil. If peace prevail Ethiopia will dominate from 800-marathon in the future.

It never question who the greatest Ethiopian Athlete is. It is Abebe Bikila.
Kenenisa doesn't need to be best of all time in Ethiopia to be best of all time in the world, in my opinion. The world Athletic history is different as a whole, than Ethiopian Athletics history. The two are not comparable although one is a subset of the other.
