Even though the crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane has dominated
the news recently, the surrender of dozens of Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) fighters
and commanders remains the top news of the 2010 year for most Oromos. It is not
common for an organization that professes to have popular support to suffer the
defections that the OLF experienced. The defection crisis came after several
years of other disasters, which included destructive divisions inside the demoralized
OLF leadership and an already low-level military activity that appeared to be absent
at times.
Many have tried to find a recipe for success. But some OLF
supporters want to continue the status quo and wait more years for a break
through. Others want the OLF to change its ideology and its goal. Five years
ago, opposition MP Bulcha Demeksa said the OLF leadership has already dropped
its secession goal for Oromia but it has not officially announced its decision
in public. Meanwhile, critics say the OLF’s failure is its inability to update
itself as well as its failure to create all-inclusive Ethiopian movement made
up of all the major ethnicities in the country. There have been many other arguments
and suggestions.
What do you think is the future of the OLF, both as an organization
and a movement that has been around for almost 40 years and during three
Ethiopian governments?
Continue the struggle with new blood of youg leadership with out changing the goal, objectives of OL
The Goal and Objectives of OLF has no single problem and mistake. It always gets the will and committement of the Oromo people as a whole. But there is a need for changing the strategy of struggle, change the leadership to youn oromos with equal representattion of our people in the OLF from all zones of Oromia, including Wello and Wanbara. OLF should also improve its democracy within itself.
our problem is we Oromo people are VERY VERY peaceful people
TPLF won IN 1991 because it used terorist tactics by bombing NGOs and schools
so OLF can never win without using terrorism and without playing psychological warefare so that TPLF's troops will defect just like thousands of Mengistu's troops defected
For me the failure of the OLF has to do with the smart move by the ruling Weyane government, incapacitating the front by shrinking its support base the young Oromos. I guess we all have to dream of the good will of the Weyane to bring change. There is no other way
Its future is Death if it decides to continue as it did. But if it becomes as flexible as the time requires it can elect as oromo representative in the parliament.
forexample, I am from amara father and oromo mother how can OLF expect people like me to vote on referendum b/w my parents sooooooo stupid it was, is and will always be the most stupid stupid agenda
OLF should officially drop its case as an organization. The oromo people, however, need to establish another organization that addresses the Oromo cause properly.
1. They should take the Historical and bililical name of Cushites from Semitic Abyssinians
2. They should write the true history of Oromo-Ethiopia that replace the current Abyssinia-Ethiopia.
3. They should fight bogos racist solomonic ideology that manifest the 'supreriority of Habeshas
4. They should eliminate the false histry of 'Galla Migration' treats Oromos an simple immigrants
5. Should expose the trocities committted by successive enemy-regines of Abyssinia-Tedros, Yohhanes, Sillasie, Mengistu anmd Meles.
6. Then Truth & Reconciliation before election and democratization
the failure of OLF started when it chages it self to family business the western stupid. no hope no more. I am sorry for those who lost thier life so far. alas OLf
