Oromia-Ethiopia: OFDM Deputy Chairman dies of cancer
OFDM VP Gabre-Sellassie Woldya

Oromia-Ethiopia: OFDM Deputy Chairman dies

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we inform the Oromo Community at home and abroad the widely known and highly respected Obbo Gabre-Sellassie Woldya, Deputy Chairman of the Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement (OFDM), died on February 15, 2009 after a long battle with cancer.

Gabre-Sellassie Woldya was one of the original leaders of the Macha-Tulama Association. He died at the age of 71. Gabre-Sellassie worked very hard to establish OFDM and labored strenuously for its survival and growth during the last four critical years. Gabre-Sellasie was wise, patient understanding and tolerant. OFDM will miss him dearly, particularly at this time when our Party is beset with political and economic difficulties. We trust that Oromos at home and abroad will come to the aid of the Movement and save it from collapse under the weight of government oppression.

Beside being my best friend - you were always gentle, kind, full of knowledge, unselfish, giving, honest and best of all you cared for your family and you showed us unconditional love. you always cared for your children and grand children. Even on your dying bed you wanted to make sure we were taken care of. Abba thank you for teaching me dignity, respect and integrity and to love all with out any prejudice...Thank you for always being there for me. Thank you for your smiles encouragements.Thank you for being such a wonderful fahter and best friend. I promise to live by your example and pass what I have learned from you to my children.

Sorry to hear!
He is one of the modern Oromo poleticians, who just said: "both national liberty and regional unity are achievable!"

The main conflict between different groups in the empire is the conflict between the virtues called Liberty and Unity. Oromos and other oppressed nations emphasize National Liberty, whereas Abyssinians stress Regional Unity. Now moderate Oromos being led by Ob Daud Ibsa including our brother who died today seem to reconcile these two virtues. For such Oromos, Liberty of Oromia is national issue and Unity of Ethiopia is regional issue for they consider Ethiopia as a region for many nations.

The only enemies of the needed national Liberty and regional Unity are Weyane and the very few Unitarist Amharas, who want to see only amharanized Ethiopia they dream for. I am happy to read Anyuaks of Gambella demanding that we have to differentiate between the Region called Ethiopia from the Nation known as Abesha. So, even we need to fight for national Libetrty of Abyssinian nations like Tigaru and Amhara as well for the Regional Unity of the region, Ethiopia.

I just recommend this concept of National Liberty with Regional Unity as a common denominator for the "legal" parties like OFC and UDJ as well for parties under ground like G7M, OLF and others to forge a strong front against the Sewu-bella fascist aka Weyane!!
