Top Ethiopian activist gives up on Western support for democracy
Prof. Mesfin

The Ethiopian peace activist and the founder of the oldest human rights organization in Ethiopia, Prof. Mesfin Woldemariam told the BBC that he has given up on the Western governments’ support for democracy in Ethiopia.

After the Ethiopian government banned his EHRCO organization, Prof. Mesfin co-founded the opposition party CUD, which won the 2005 national election votes in many regions of the country. However, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi later jailed Prof Mesfin and many other officials for speaking out about vote rigging by the ruling party.

Prof. Mesfin was nominated for the European Union (EU) human rights international award in 2006. During a BBC report on human rights abuses in Ethiopia, Prof Mesfin said the Meles government has now set up his own fake human rights organization after terminating independent human rights organizations in the country.

“I have given up on the WEST. I do not believe the WEST is interested in democracy, the rule of law and human rights,” said Prof. Mesfin.

Like his predecessors, US President Barrack Obama has remained silent about the massive human rights abuses, food aid diversions and killings throughout present day Ethiopia.

Honesty is the best policy :)
The guy is such a narrow minded and incurably deceptive Amhara ethnic supremacist chauvinist who is incapable of working for equality and justice for all other than manufacturing folkloric children stories by claiming that there is not any ethnic group called Amhara just like a fox dressed in sheep skin and seriously claiming that there are NOT any foxes in existence other than innocent sheep.
How can a person deliberately avoiding self awareness, self acknowledgment and self respect can enter in to an honest cooperative nation building by respecting and working with self acknowledging and self respecting individuals and groups for the betterment of Ethiopia and the Ethiopians? Let the great GOD give him the power of honesty and wisdom of genuine self awareness and other awareness for the better advancement of the better Ethiopian unity in diversity by removing tplf tyranny.

Prof Mesfin is a fraud
Professor Mesfin was a derg cadre who denied the existence of Amhara tribe because to him Amhara and Ethiopia are synonymous.

What goes around comes around
Professor Mesfin used to joke on the struggles of the Oromo and Somali people. His cousins today refused to relinquish power by Democratic means, because they came to the power by the power of the gun, not by the power of the people. Professor, I think it is time for you and all those who degrade the Oromo people's struggle, to join us in the fields. I know you are too old, but you can advice if you may alter your centuries old insensitive persuasions, and start to understand that fake claims of the Super Ethiopianism is over.
Power to the people!!!!
Asalaam aleikum.

feeble excuse
the comments made by the prof. is known by the man in the street.it is an open secret. so what has the prof to say about the failure of the opposition to convince the public to rally round it? the opposition leaders have shown no valor nor decisive leadership skill other than instigating infighting.
accusing the west is just another feeble excuse to sweep all the faults of the opposition under the carpet.
no doubt the public desperately want change of administration, but not keen on an opposition which can't put itself together.

Down with minority tyranny and dictatorship!
Sober,

Frightened thief, you are chanting the same old chants like Beni Ali of Tunisia, Mubarack of Egypt, Gaddafi of Libya, etc. and their paid cadres being caged by the peoples power.

Your fate is absolutely the same fate just like the tyrants being mentioned herein. The end of impoverishing and enslaving tyranny is here and has come to stay. This is 21st century!

The BBC accusations are highly exaggerated with a motive to blackmail the Ethiopian Government. It is solely based on the politically motivated wild allegations made by frustrated opposition members who at present have lost tractions & public attention in the political process in Ethiopia and running out of steam mainly by their own makings. In the eyes of the Ethiopian public these groups are outcasts who have become nothing more than a collection of meaningless nuisances. They are rejected and ignored across the board, people have lost confidence on the opposition groups at present and barely pay any attention to what they say or do. Their opposition groups’ most recent reputation has been marred with internal conflicts, divisions & fragmentations, and unrealistic demands that break the country apart & wild allegations. The Ethiopian police and military forces are one of the best trained in Africa with a higher standard of discipline and moral conduct and they do not deserve to be falsely accused and blackmailed for political reasons. Whether these claims are true or not, the only way to know the truth as to what exactly and honestly did happen is to investigate each and every allegation independently.

Most aid agencies bosses are happy when people in Ethiopia have no food. The so called third world leaders and the aid agenceies are happy they'r happy b/c they are going to use the poor to collect money get pay fat checks. When people starve in Ethiopia or in Africa it's big pay day for big bosses .People use other people to get pay....that's the real world we are living in.
