Opposition MP: Oromos don't want secession from Ethiopia

Oromo Opposition leader Bulcha Demeksa said most Oromos do not want secession from Ethiopia and his party has declared its opposition to the corresponding Article 39 of the current government's constitution. He told Voice of America (VOA) that his OFDM party, various Oromo and other Ethiopian opposition groups inside the new FDD coalition have put this policy as one of their several uniting causes.

Bulcha added that Article 39 was enforced into the constitution by Meles Zenawi’s TPLF in the early 1990s without the wish of Oromo people and the political groups active during the transition period. He said Oromo people want democracy, equality and self-governance.

Bulcha said Oromo people see the secession ideology as being detrimental as it fuels more conflicts and as being impractical for Oromo people which he symbolized as being the “stem” of Ethiopia, since they are the majority in population with the most economic resources.

Bulcha said, while Oromo opposition parties are closing gaps with other opposition leaders inside FDD, his OFDM party still supports regional autonomy and ethnic federalism. His FDD-Medrek opposition organization has been the target of increasing government harassment in recent months.

The OFDM chairman and economist Bulcha has previously suggested that the OLF organization might have also dropped its secession ideology. Unlike OLF, the Eritrea-armed ONLF rebels in the Ogaden region reportedly seek secession from Ethiopia to establish "Greater Somalia."

The battle between the ONLF and the government has led to massive humanitarian crisis in all corners of the Ogaden region, comparable to the Darfur crisis, with western human rights groups blaming the Meles administration for war crimes and alleged human rights abuses

"Oromiya is a stem for Ethiopia and does not want to separate."What an amazing mistake made by a strong and reliable politician? How long do you think the stem can feed and support the branches that do not want it? How do you know that most Oromos do not want secession? Have you ever conducted a simple poll or you are arguing this way just to satisfy the evil interest of your unreliable freinds (I think you know who they are). Ok just forget about the interst of oromo people. How do you think you are going to entertain the interest other regions ( branches) if they want secession? Through the Derglish style? Think twice before you take such irriversible decisions. Don't repeat the mistakes of your predeceesors. Be yourself and stand independent. You don't have agree in all respects with your unreliable freinds. They have now let you change your mind. Have you ever changed any of their political philosophy. Did they buy your ethinic federalism? This is what you have to answer for yourself. Pls Obbo Bulcha don't always follow others let them follow you at least in some respects. I had a trust on you but now my confidence on you is becoming shaky. Hope you will be more anlytical in the future. It is unfair for politician like you to be againest article 39 of the constitution at least theoretically even if I personally feel that it is impossible for any Ethiopian state to demonstrate its right as per the article if one want.

Let God gives you clear vision for Oromo people.

Bulcha was telling and is telling a fantasy, while he knows he has no communications with the people he is talking about. It is 19 or 20 years since obbo bulche is wraped up and put in a gittar box( in his party office) just bark like old dog from there. The pupose is to to show the world that there are multiparty under Meles.
Future is to be talked from our hitory in the past and the vission of the new generatin,Father Obbo bulche missed that. Instead of saying "Our people want that or do not want that" from incercled gittar, to say, let the oromians determine what they have at their heart is the realistic one and that is the true democracy and it is the only way to know what the oromos think about Oromias future.

Which Chapter are you reading Mr. Bulcha?
Every ideology should be supported with Evidence that can show Oromo does not want any secession.

Is there any organization which has conducted a research or fact gathering? Let alone this, your own party could not open a branch office in Oromia region except Finfinee.

Mr. Bulcha and OFDM have no right/moral to speak what is in the mind of Oromos while he is a prisoner in Finfinee. He is a senior citizen of Oromo doing nothing except his best not to retire from politics

Give Oromos or Ethiopians the evidence or a little research conducted in Oromia?

It sounds that as if you would like to join hand in hand with Meles "if i can't win, why can't I join TPLF"

speaking our mind
except some oromos ourside in the diaspora, most oromos at home ofcourse don't want secession

article 39 is a tool by TPLF to keep dividing oromos and amharas
thank you Bulchaa for being bold!!

Oromos want self-rule under ethiopia, which we are the majority and sure dominate the country!

But Bulchaa is wrong about OLF!!!!!!!!!! OLF still wants secession....think about it..how can OLF get money from diaspora if it says it does not want secession??

it is about money

Long live Oromia and federalism!!!

let the oromo seceed
Let the Oromos secede but first they should be pushed back to their pre-Oromo migration borders - some parts of Bale. They should forget about the fantasy land called Oromia carved out by Meles to serve his evil plan of fracturing the Ethiopian state.

Bulcha should stop dividing oromos from other ethiopians
the real issue is "ethnic federalism"

i don't think secession idea was a big deal
there is no real border between oromos and the rest of ethiopians for oromos to secede from in the first place
even the TPLF map has a new amhara zone located inside "oromia region" and a new oromia (oromia 5) zone located inside "amhara region"

so the secession idea based on ethnicity was never realistic in the first place

no need to waste time on it BULCHA!

but it is sad that BULCHA still supports "ethnic federalism"
he should stop his dream of dividing oromos and other ethiopians

Rhetoric vs Conviction
Let's differentiate rhetoric from conviction! Talking about Oromos wanting indepebndence or not is a wrong generalization. One thing as a fact is that almost all Oromo politicians, even including Ob. Bulcha deep in their heart believe in the right of Oromo nation to self-determination. This is the whole mark of Oromos and their mind set (spiritual Organization) aka OLF.
This mind set, OLF has got one Kaayyoo, but three Karaa (including three rhetorics)
- OLF mind set in the rebel organizations have got an explicit rhetoric of self-determination and fight for the Kaayyoo by ALL meanses,
- OLF mind set in the opposition organizations like that of Ob Bulcha have got the rhetoric of struggling for liberation in Ethiopian context, but covertly struggle for the Kaayyoo,
- OLF mind set in the ruling organization like that of Ob Jundedin has got the rhetoric, which says we have already achieved already the liberation, but yet covertly push for the Kaayyoo.

So genuine Oromos, calm down and let the mind set moving to the Kaayyoo in all Karaa, despite the rhetorics of the opposition and ruling Oromo organizations. Let our foes know exactly, despite the rhetorics, Oromo Liberation Movement will never stop till achieving the Kaayyo. Let's allow Ob Bulcha do his rhetoric and his practice in the movement on the Karaa he chose to the Kaayyo.
Long live OLF as a trinity: with one Kaayyoo, but three Karaa!!
