New OLF group rejects Oromia secession from Ethiopia

An OLF splinter group (Jijirama-OLF) created by Ex-OPDO officials has held a meeting in the United States and appears to have "amended" the OLF program to embrace Ethiopian federalism and reject the Oromia secession agenda. The other OLF group led by Dawud Ibsa has accused Jijirama-OLF of illegally using the OLF label and logo to make misleading press releases.

The Oromo Liberation Front (the OLF) National Council has held its historic meeting on December 30 and 31, 2011.

The OLF National Council has examined all aspects of the Oromo peoples’ struggle; the political program of the OLF; the current conditions of the Ethiopian peoples under the dictatorship of Meles Zenewi; and the importance of working with all democratic forces in Ethiopian to end the suffering.

The OLF National Council also focused on the timely demand of working with other democratic forces in forming the new Ethiopia that will guarantee and protect the fundamental rights of all peoples in Ethiopia. The new social contract will & should be based on the free will and consent of all peoples in Ethiopia. The previous style that claims “I know for you” should be abolished and replaced with a new vision that is based on peoples' consent and free will.

To fulfill this vision and play crucial roles, not only for the Oromo people, but for all Ethiopian people, the OLF National Council pursuant to the power vested to it by the OLF National Congress effectively amended the OLF political program today, January 1, 2012.
The New OLF political program will accept the new federal democratic republic of Ethiopia that will work for the betterment of all of its citizens, neighboring countries and international communities. Informing the new federal democratic republic of Ethiopia, the OLF will respect and honor all decisions the Ethiopian peoples will make using their right of self-determination.

Therefore, we call upon all Oromo political forces and others forces in Ethiopia to join us to implement this new vision.

The OLF National Council also appeals to International Community to stop supporting the dictatorship of Meles Zenewi’s regime that has engaged in terrorizing the Ethiopian people, selling the precious resources of the country to the highest bidders, and the government that does not respect the principles of democracy, human rights and rule of law.

They are idiots. This issues must be addressed when we win the fight against dictatorship. The choice must be left to the majority of Oromo people to decide on whether they want secession or not. If they so called Jijirama-OLF or the old-OLF are living in their own fantasy world. They are not in touch with the reality of the ground with regard to the Oromo people.

They are both try their best to please the westerns or habeshas at the expense the Oromo people who has been victimized by their movement.

I believe that true freedom and Independence comes when the people of Oromo (young, old, farmers, students, teachers, business men and women) stand up together to fight the enemy. It is not some agents who hardly agree on simple issues that help us achieve our destiny.

old-OLF vs jijirama-OLF

who will win??

Jijirama-OLF has more soldiers on the ground than old-OLF

but old-OLF has more ideological support and bigger financial potential than jijirama-OLF

if meles is overthrown, jijjirama-OLF will have better chance of stabilizing ethiopia because it has the support of both oromos and amharas but in the end, many right-wing oromos support old-OLF so there will never be long-term peace in oromia under the rule of jijirama-OLF

at the end of the day, each OLF should continue fighting the minnority TPLF regime and oromo people will decide which OLF branch they support later

If you label "old-OLF" as right wing do you mean to say that "Jijirama" is left wing?

To me, you seem to be badly confused on the issue. :)

Whether within Ethiopia or without Ethiopia we do not want narrow factional power mongering and narrow factional rule or governance at all. That will only usher in instability, unhealthy competition and bloody conflicts and insecurities as well as depleting scarce human and material resources and investing on war and war mongering primitive rascal whore style politics while our broad people keep suffering from starvation and negligence.

Just look at the minority tplf tyrannical bad government and bad governance and the insecurities, wars, chaos, starvation, devastation and the entire hopelessness of the Ethiopian people and the entire under its dictatorship. I am not a politician but I know from experience that we must not repeat the same criminal mistakes.

All of these habitual bickering factions and even organizations beyond and out side of them need to take themselves from the neck and form broad based alliances while keeping their dear and near organizational independence and agree on a common short program to fight the common enemy as well as agree to leave the long term objectives to be decided by the will of the people through fair and free referendum, say even somewhat similar to that of South Sudan.

The question is not about as to who will win or who will lose but the question of how to win together and build the great common country and common region. Personally I am absolutely ready to be bound by the people's verdict delivered through the wisely and knowledgeably organized referendum. Only then we will have legitimate strong majority government based on democracy and the rule of law as has been prescribed in the wise practices of the long standing Gada Democratic system of governance.

Factional bickering and factional competition must be secondary and left to be openly debated and handled in an ongoing basis say in the hopefully soon coming democratic parliament of the coming democratic country.
