Caribbean,” said Rezene Tesfamariam as he described the destruction
that last week’s earthquake brought to Port-au-Prince, the capital of
Haiti. Tesfamariam is the Haiti country director for Plan
International, an international aid organization that focuses on the
needs of children. “I’ve never
seen anything like this in my life,” said Tesfamariam, who is
originally from Ethiopia. “I have seen a lot. I’ve seen refugees
fleeing for their lives, but never anything like this.”
