Ethiopian Police kill 2, injure 6 people to stop church construction

(AFP) — Ethiopian police shot dead two people and injured six others as they blocked an attempt by Christians to build a church at a site also claimed by Muslims, a government spokesman said Wednesday.

Orthodox Christians attacked police Tuesday in Dessie area some 250 kilometres (155 miles) northeast of Addis Ababa when the forces tried to stop the construction.

"They stormed the place and then they started bringing materials to continue building the church unlawfully," spokesman Bereket Simon told reporters.

"Unfortunately three lives have been claimed. Two of them were killed by bullets, one of them fell off a cliff."

In 2007, around 12 people were killed in religious riots in western Ethiopia. Bereket said there has been an "upsurge of attempts" to instigate further conflict in recent months.

Amaaraa minority

Ortodox people are minority of this empire called Ethiopiaa.

dont you Amaaraa ortodox people understand you are a minority and you will recieve minority rights.

Ethiopiaa is Islamic country with small population of christiian.
Infact the ortodox church should close and panxecostaal church must win over these minority christian ortodox.

Ortodox go to your churches in Gondaarr Tiigraii and Eriitreyaa.

I hate wayaane minority also but i see that wayaane at least respect Musliim.

It is difficult to imagine, how muslims among Amhara (Orthodox) are going to live together after colonized nations like oromo, Ogadens and southern nations determined thier future. Amaha is naqarsa in all forms, the so called politicians of them and thier folowers still have backward vission which will neve take them any where excep a disater for them. WE can not live in 15 century while we are in 21st.
Even animals, take a dog understand his srounds if a human being trained them properly. It understand its limit, where to stay,where to sleep. simply acepts what it is. You cant see, unless you allow it, requiring some thing what doesnot belong to it.
Amahara's behave is anoying, but the there will be no destiny with confused politics.

Even though, I do believe that Ethiopia is a Christian island. To the muslim brothers, do not erase history.
