Oromia: Jimma Times Oromiffa Group - JTOG
JT Diaspora
Afaan Oromo (also known as Oromiffa) is the most widely spoken language in Ethiopia by first-language speakers and it is the second most spoken language in the country overall. Oromiffa, which is part of the general Afro-Asiatic language family, is also a top five language in the African continent in total number of speakers.
Due to the weakness of information technology and other factors in Ethiopia, Afaan Oromo and other Ethiopian languages have been slow to grow domestically as well as internationally, particularly online.
Despite the suspension of Jimma Times's Yeroo private Oromiffa newspaper in Ethiopia last year, Oromos worldwide can form networks online with JT to contribute to the language's development in various and creative ways, including by joining and contributing to the Jimma Times Oromiffa Group (JTOG). Particularly, Oromos living in the Diaspora have the potential to utilize their diverse capabilities, education, resources, training and professional background to support specific branches of JTOG projects.
