Ethiopia: Two Ethio-Americans nominated for Grammys
Jimma Times
Ethiopia-born Wayna Wondwossen and Kenna Zemedkun are nominated for a Grammy award in the "Best Urban/Alternative Performance" catagory.
The talented Wayna received her Grammy nomination for the "Lovin You" music while Kenna was selecting for "Say Goodbye To Love." Often compared with the Grammy-winner Lauryn Hill, Wayna has been widely praised for her work, including by Stevie Wonder, who also compared her to his wife singer/songwriter Syreeta Wright. Wayna has a unique style, blending R&B with jazz and soul.
She released her debut album Moments of Clarity - Book 1 in 2004 and received critical acclaim from Billboard and Essence magazine.Last year, Wayna traveled back to Ethiopia to perform in the capital city's Harlem Jazz club and other venues.
Kenna is an Ethiopian-born American musician with a unique and "unclassifiable" genre that is perplexed with creativity and originality. His selected song on the 51st Annual Grammy Awards nomination list is from his second album "Make Sure They See My Face."
