10 Reasons why Africa should NOT care about Obama inauguration (blog)
Opinion | By Blogger Oromummaa
In many places around the world, especially Africa, people are obsessed and over-excited with the election of Barack Obama. But there is not much historic about his election. We are being played by the Western media into thinking this is meaningful. It is shameful that African people are degrading themselves by acting in such a way. There are many obvious reasons why Africa should STOP the obsession with Obama's inauguration to become the next American president. Here are 10 of them.
- The cause of happiness about Obama for some Africans seems to be an assertion that Obama is BLACK. However, Obama is half-white and most measurements, like the environment factor (i.e. him growing up with his white parent and family, etc) show that he is more than half-white.
- Another cause of happiness seems to be that America is no more racist today because the half-white Obama is elected, as opposed to the typical full-white. This is ridiculous! This belief ignores the fact that Obama is half-white, the fact that white-supremacists are still tolerated in America and the fact that an election of a half-black man does not belittle institutionalized racism against the other 60 million black people in America. It is even more ridiculous because (despite the weak Mccain, a supporter of the worst president Bush, being his opponent) Obama won the election only by a very small percentage of votes, 53% to 46%.
- Stop calling him African-American or "Black President"! Is there a rule that says being 50% black is a requirement to drop the "white-American" label? Obama is no less white-American/European American than he is African-American. Are we going to celebrate if the next president in 2012 becomes 75% LESS white? All of this obesssion over skin color only shows how racist a society is. It seemed like a bunch of Americans who were tired of being labeled racists organized a campaign for Obama for a pity win. Anyway, Obama is no less a White President than he is a black president.
- Some people support Obama for his principles and for what he stands for. But let us not forget that he had to DETACH himself from his old friends, his old pastor, his old mentors, his "angry" Black community, his Muslim past history and from just about everything else in order for him to be accepted & elected. That does NOT show a man who stands firm on his beliefs and past associations. Basically, Obama had to ACT and be like another person, going as far as wearing Jewish clothing and pledging his unconditional love for Israel despite its massacres of Palestines for many decades. He is no different.
- Similarly, all indications show that Obama will continue the status quo in Africa by supporting the TPLF dictatorship in Ethiopia and other African countries. He will continue financing the atrocities and oppression all around Africa, just like his predecessors.
- Before and during the transition period, Obama has showed that he will keep most of Bush's policies. Even his promise to withdraw from Iraq in a few weeks is becoming more and more unlikely. His policies of deeply involving government in the private sector sounds like the policies of African dictators. And Obama will also not drastically increase any economic help to Africa as many believe.
- Some people are also obsessed with Obama's speaking ability and they say he is a great Orator. But without his teleprompter, Obama sounds WORSE than even George Bush. Here, check for yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxBX8sz3tO8&eurl=
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omHUsRTYFAU - Obama does not relate with the average African. While strong African-American liberation leaders decided to fight American imperialism and colonialism many years ago, Pro-white leaders like Martin Luther King chose to sustain the white American colonial state that discriminated/enslaved blacks and occupied the land of Native Americans. At that time, MLK was labeled a TRAITOR by many African-Americans in those days ( just like the current traitors in Ethiopia who claim to be "peaceful opposition" to sustain the Ethiopian colonial state, instead of liberating their people) Obama is just like MLK in his ideology and that is why white people also honor these 2 black puppets, Obama and MLK. So he does not relate with most African people in his stance inside America as well as in his philosophy inside Africa since thousands of nationalities ("ethnicities") like Oromia, Ogadenia are under colony today in Africa. For example, in Ethiopia, Nigeria, Sudan, Kenya, Eritrea, Chad, Uganda and everywhere else, many African nationalities ("Ethnic nations") are still under colony and fighting for their liberation & independence.
- Unlike what some progressive African countries are doing by bringing criminal leaders to court, Obama will not bring George Bush to court for the death of almost 200,000 civilians in Iraq. Not exactly an idol to look up to.
- African media is obsessed with Obama and some countries have named streets after the name "Obama." But, Would a half-white man being elected president in South Africa or other white-minority African country cause such obsession inside European/American countries? The answer is NO. In fact, Europeans and Americans would care ZERO of such a scenario in Africa. So Africa being overhappy about a half-black American becoming a president in America is just another example of a slave mentality.
