(Blog) Is Ethiopian dictator using Ogaden rebels to trick the West again?
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

  • Jaalala Blog
Another election in Ethiopia, another drama staged. The ruling party of dictator Meles Zenawi has taken virtually all seats in parliament and made Ethiopia a one-party state similar to the tyranny in Eritrea. Even the genocidal regime in Sudan has a better representative parliament than Meles Zenawi. That is how bad it has become in our country. Now Meles is trying to show new security problems in the Ogaden to trick the West into supporting him for the sake of stability in the horn of Africa.

Most Western governments have accepted that this 2010 election was a sham. The fact that Ethiopian capital city Finfinne (which was swept by the opposition in 2005) has now been won by the Zenawi dictatorship was probably when the drama became too predictable. Since then, the dictator has been trying to survive by doing two things:
(1)distract the Ethiopian people and
(2) hold western leaders hostage.

This past week, Zenawi’s media in Ethiopia started to distract the people with the news of the Nile river dispute with Egypt and about the upcoming World Cup football games. Meanwhile, Meles is trying to create news about insecurity in southern Ethiopia so that the West will have no choice but to support him for the sake of “war on terror.” This is the only explanation for how a small group of Ogaden rebels (ONLF) took over the most important Oil field in Ogaden region WITHOUT ANY FIGHTING! Meles simply handed over the Oil field to the rebels! Knowing that the ONLF bandits will run away and hide when they are attacked, Meles Zenawi staged another drama in the Ogaden by allowing the rebels to take control of the Oil exploration area for a short period of time. The foolish ONLF leaders in Europe then congratulated themselves and fell for Zenawi’s trick by sending press release to western media about their “successful” capture of the Oil field. The ONLF helped Zenawi to prove a point once again that the West needs Zenawi for the sake of stability.

As many American leaders have said before, stability is more important than democracy to America’s foreign policy. Westerners want stability for the sake of their own stability, to fight terror as well as to protect their economic interests/investments.

This is another dilemma for all of us who want to bring democracy to Ethiopia.

The hypocrisy of the West will continue to keep Meles Zenawi (or his heirs) on power for 100 more years in Ethiopia unless the opposition forces unite and remove Zenawi once and for all. Dr. Merera Gudina, leader of Oromo opposition and the MEDREK coalition should continue to present his party as an alternative force which Western powers can depend on. Meles is bluffing. The fact that Zenawi is still trying to get western support shows that he needs the West even when he boasted about China. The fact is China will not give Zenawi as much free grants and vital humanitarian aid the same way the West does. And Ethiopia does need a lot of grants and capital as well as A LOT of aid to keep millions of people alive and healthy. Only the West can provide all this. China usually gives pricy loans, low-quality infrastructure assistance and often expects net economic advantages from its investments. The opposition needs to expose all of Zenawi’s tricks and show that the opposition is reliable for both the stabilization and democratization of the horn of Africa.

the oil is in my land
I believe Jimma Times is supporting implicitely the No sens content of this Blog.

it is very regretable that allmost 50% of ethiopin Population(oromos) can't still put their shit together. the main reason being that they are confused about their future. some of them wanna be part of Ethiopia and play a big Role in the so called Western christian Agenda of the reagion. the other part, mostly Muslims wanna separate. All in one, I don't know how that is gonna work; and how the Ethiopianist gonna earn the western Trust.
We Ogadens are doing our part well and good against the western supported abasiniens. so mind your business wich is worst then us.

in case i didn't mention, the oil is in Ogaden land and we will defend it as we did for 100 years, until it is acknowledged and respected by all other ethiopians.

Learn From ONLF

This Jimmatimes is a Joke. You are a pathetic excuse for a publication. You know very well that ONLF is the only viable military challenge to the TPLF. The people of Ogaden have stood strong despite all they have faced. They told the world well in advance that there is no Democracy in Ethiopia. Now the world sees they are right. I am not from Ogaden but I wish my people were like the Ogaden people and ONLF. I support them now 100% they were right all along. JimmaTimes, dream on, ONLF has been proven right

Recognition
Neither the European Union nor USA nor the rest of the world would listen if he calls ONLF a terrorist group since they are recognized organization that keeps offices in these nations.

ONLF & People of OGADEN
Only an idiot, who is well fed with cheap Ethiopian propaganda would call the heroic ONLF bandits and terrorists. History will, absolutely, absolve the ONLF and the People of Ogaden. They stood against and fought occupation, oppression and exploitation by a supposed African brethren and neighbour, Ethiopia, which turned out to be expansionist, and tyrannical state that wants enslave its fellow Africans.

Long live ONLF and OGADEN!

Omos
By addressing ONLF as bandits you only exposed your ignorance about the situation in Ethiopia and Ogaden in particular.

In 1992, ONLF welcomed the TPLF drafted constitution, accepted and participated in the first election and scooped 86% of the total vote casted in Ogaden.

Once it legitimately secured the majority of the elected members in the local parliament, it followed the constitution to the letter by asking the Addis Ababa regime as per the constitution (article 39)to hold referendum in Ogaden as whether or not Ogeadenis wanted to stay as status quo, granted limited autonomy within Ethiopia, or seccesion. The answer from Meles was to try to assassinate the the ONLF chairman whose defence 84 fighters and civilians lost their lives. That was the beginning of ONLF's armed struggle.

It is also safe to say that as early as 1993, ONLF accurately read the intention and hidden agenda of TPLF led EPDRF that the constitution is a ploy and not worth of the papers written in it and that they are not genuine democrats as many in Ethiopia are now finding out. ONLF knew then what many are now coming to know, 18 years later.

ONLF is NOT a terrorist it is rather a genuine popular broad-based organization. It started the armed struggle at the height of TPLF might and arrogance and in the last 16 years TPLF failed to defeat them militarily and now TPLF knows very well that ONLF has passed the threshold of being defeated militarily.

Instead of wasting time with gibberish conferences, demonstrations and writing lengthy articles, if other Ethiopians opted for armed struggle as ONLF, Meles Zenawi wouldn't have enslaved Ethiopians, wouldn't have held bogus election in 2010, Birtukan Medeska and others wouldn't have rotten in jail and by now we wouldn't be complaing and discussing about the of fairness of the election. Simply put, Meles and his gangs wouldn't have terrorised 80 million Ethiopians for 19 years and wouldn't have granted themselves another 5 years or even more!.
It is never too late to learn and use your knowledge to put things in perspective.

Cobole(Obole) in 2007
I guess in 2007 when ONLF penetrated and destroyed the highly protected Oil field in Cobole(Obole) in 2007 and killed 94 soldiers and 7 Chinese workers were all Meles plan as well.

This blog is laughable. The uprising in the Ogaden is starting to increase day by day.
