Ethiopia: Ogaden's ONLF breaks into two factions

The Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) rebel group of Ethiopia's Ogaden region has reportedly split into two factions over disputes on the death of ONLF leader Mohammed Sirad Dolal. A Senior leader Abdiwali Hussein Gas declared a new ONLF chairman.

Dolal was a rival of the current ONLF chairman Mohammed Omar Osman and he was assassinated by Ethiopian security forces, allegedly with substantial assistance from agents inside warring Ogaden sub-clans. The ONLF and human rights groups have long accused the Ethiopian government of using local Somali clan militias against the heavily armed ONLF fighters instead of using trained police force.

Abdwali appointed Salahudin Ma'ow as the new ONLF chairman and declared that he will "bring Mohammed Omar Osman to court" for breaking up the ONLF, according to the Puntland media Garowe quoting BBC Somali sources. Abdwali is relatively known in some parts of the Oromo community for seeking better collaboration between Oromo and Ogaden separatist forces, particularly attempts to work with Muslim Oromo groups against what he labeled as "colonial Ethiopian empire."

The Ethiopian government and the ONLF have accused each other of human rights abuses in an ongoing violence that have intensified since April 2007.

ONLF split, Laughable!
First, there is no such claims that ONLF has been split into two grouds, it is nothing but wishful thinking.
second, the Ogaden people know who the so-called new chairman is. Ma'ow has no credit among the Ogaden people and the struggle that is going on in that region. They know he is a criminal individual who lost tens of thousands of dollars of the people's money. They also know that Mr. Gas was expelled from the ONLF organization because of his bad conducts, nepotism and tribalism activities. If they can create organization out of thier wishful dreaming, I would say good luck. One thing for sure, these people have no place in the ogaden affairs.

lie, lie, lie, lie, lie
This is obviously a fabrication. The ONLF is fighting and is united strong. Ethiopia wishes this to be true, but it is apparent that ONLF has not split. Mohamed Omar Osmond is still the president of the ONLF, and until the ONLF makes a clear statement on this question , then only can it be relevant, otherwise ONLF is one and will remain its status quo.

it is good idea if Mr. Gas can unite Oromia and Ogadenia people against the abyssinian colonizers. sooner or later all somali people will be united under one flag and one country so let us work together to liberate Oromia at the same time

They should be devastated because they are causing the government not to make any developing progress in Ogaden. Our government is now actually doing good but for good of ethiopia we should now stand with Andenet. I as Oromo support the idea of not supporting ONLF.
